PALLINO PORTABLE

LIGHTING

ongoing

Tarmac will start prototyping new anodised colour options slowly. 2 x colours picked out- she will reach out to anodising supplier to help figure out how to specify then get samples in to TU.

Stock will be late, should be confirmed how long the lead time before sale period starts. Mina to update Michele and SAP team with lead time now.

Spare parts- Mina is awaiting costings from Coffey, packaging complete- once costings come in and SPN confirmed by GL, Hussain will help get them into SAP. So CS only wants 15 pcs- Mina will ask for 50pcs - this is same cost as 100pcs, so will go with 50, just awaiting packaging confirmation. Packaging sampled approved - at invoice stage, Mina will update Frank GL.

Sample for Elevate is here with Cecco top. Some tolerances can be improved- Mina will update to the team in GL.

Cecco top sample received. Awaiting rest of product costing from GL. Xiangu leg sample also completed, costings from Xiangyu arrived and sent to Pricing team. No negative feedback from pricing yet.

Consider sending Elevate top to new solid timber suppliers. Underway with Eto as a comparison. 10% increase approx. on cheaper timbers, 17% saving on AmWl.

Aesthetic design in solidworks for the leg sleeve is done, Mina 3D printed a leg sleeve, will install once sample arrives in TU. Will look at this week.

ACCESSORY

ongoing

Samples received from supplier for review - review sent and feedback received, they will implement updates, new sample underway. Still no lead time info.

Only black is suitable for deep etch as silver is unlikely to be ready in time. Deep etch team can manage with this as long as they have a silver swatch to use for photoshop. Still not shot.

Expect Coffey to complete Sample by 23/06- DIDN’T ARRIVE- delayed due to off tool (injection) failing, going through update process.

Not suitable to add lighting colour update at this late stage. Looking to see if the supplier has an option to change from ‘cool to warm’ light and can’t implement possibly integrate with Home Automation Systems - this will cost $200K, Dylan need to discuss with SLT. Coffey also possibly has an option but with King App is preference. DK has requested that we don’t do the expensive option, possibly a King Lighting App only which is managed by someone else. APP UPDATES under FIREFLY PROJECT

Spoke to Coffey re other app options, he had ideas and companies suggested, awaiting info from Coffey to email (still awaiting). Then we can go back to DK with 3 options, no brand, rebrand and Ingenuity.

In terms of production readiness for flock is very much PO dependent once we get feedback from pricing.

Costings arrived, sent to Michele, but still awaiting tooling (new off tool parts) but will let Michele/Damo know about initial costings. Haven’t heard back from Michele regarding this yet. Still awaiting pricing team and off tool sample from Coffey.

HELIO PENDANT

LIGHTING

ongoing

DK meeting happened, a lot of feedback from DK which has changed the course and brief.

Weight is important (consider plastic or reduce alu material). Mechanical vertical movement mech remote operation direction now (single ceiling point), Jordan will start the conversation with Coffey. App integration is dumbed down for cost purposes- see above (Solaire).

@jordan will did some work on the modular version to explain to DK the number of wires visible and complexity of electrician set up. Will render one version and send to DK. Idea is individual pendants that magnetise together but are powered separately (electrician joins in ceiling to use one switch on the wall). Need an end cap- put aside until gap in firefly timeline. Mina has done some work on how to configure packages, and it’s difficult to offer limitless options. (Weight and installation issues, wiring switch issues) Consider working with an electrical team, configurator for stencil.

Mina has worked on a connector system to reduce component requirements, functions well but seems expensive. Will consider again for the week and if no cheaper solutions come to light move forward with this concept.

Timber accessories all samples complete. In TU- Tom F coming in tomorrow afternoon with new aluminium ring installed.

Handful of adjustments with the team, Mina managing in a document.

TF discussion happened- he’s open to updates, with no1 request being solid timber top. Preferencing new top style. All is resting on pricing for the time being, if solid top can be accommodated then production almost ready. If veneer then will need resampling. Need pricing feedback first. - New suppliers have come back with pricing approx 10% increase . on cheaper timbers, 17% saving on AmWl.

Assembly instruction line work was generated by Mina, once the product is ready these will be turned into instructions.

DIRECTORS CHAIR

OUTDOOR

Documentation shared to Shiyang, tooling and BOM cost due from Shiyang updated one currently more expensive than we were hoping for. Cross brace costed in stainless and Aluminium.

BOM prelim arrived: missing some items need more info but looking close to 335RMB already. Awaiting GL feedback for more detail. Will ask if they have ideas on where to make savings.

Investigating in house production, Miao has responded on Mandrel bending machinery, Mina to get back to him enquiring on more machinery that would be involved for this to become a product in GL.

Sling cover sample 1 completed. Highlighted comfort issues in frame form. Zipper was used need to test strength, also fabric stretched. Highlighting that we need stronger batylene, or layer up with stronger fabrics quilted.

Plan to go to prototype tooling ASAP (after 1 month extrusion tooling ready). This then needs to tested in press tools, with aluminium bounce back would expect issues, but minimal 2 weeks for tweaking. This is with press tool starting at same time as extrusion tooling.

Lounge chair solidworks completed and sent to Shiyang to sample after normal chair.

Even minimising the sling cover prototyping time (1 week) we are in early September for production start. Even if we start tooling after quoting immediately, we are still mid July for off tool components.

Need to work out using off tool components all the small mechs at this point as well.

Even if we buy off the shelf extrusion, we need to make 4 weeks for press tool + 2 weeks for tweaking.

Mina not interested in weeks of workshop time to make the photoshoot items which will not be useful for product release and will slow that down.

A little bit of downtime while awaiting tooling completion.

Cheap mesh sample- Mina is currently testing the mesh with 150kg to test if stretch and seams are suitable.

All toolings underway, Aluminium arrived and sent out for bending. This will help to provide accurate costs. Plastic toolings due back 14th august. With 3D prints to simulate injection moulded parts, whould be able to put together prototype over the coming weeks.

Shiyang preparing for in factory production by looking into tube bending machines for multi products capability.

Mina modelled counter and Bar heights for form, showed DK an idea on the leg fold concept- he approves but we will wait to produce the two lower chairs first before prototyping the tall version.

Mina will share Post Spring production dates with Shiyang so he understands our time goals.

FIREFLY- outdoor lantern

OUTDOOR

Brief - portable, charging, ip rated, fabric integration for softer feel. Concept stage- conversation with Tanya once prototypes are completed.

Brief update permanent outdoor version, so needs higher IP rating. DK confirmed wants plug in charging.

Coffey has a lot of experience with outdoor lights, will get back to Jordan with feedback to his questions, will ring him if no response by end of day 03/07. If still no update then will start the engineering design himself and ask Coffey to improve it.

For shoot- 1 lamp promised, 1 lamp has been provided. Going with smooth finish.

Tested base light vs column light- preference for base light but need to prove that taller 750mm range expansion will be possible down the track, using 3D print and higher lumens.

Worked through construction solutions for assemblability- will model and send to Coffey for conversation.

DK meeting confirm 31/05- charging near house rather than in garden space. Plug in charger.

Upmarket sound solution to incorporate in (ask Coffey). Wifi compatibility decided due lower cost, as well as fixed on/off switch possibly with Pallino operation capabilities.

Spoke to Coffey re other app options - there was a video and PDF, $10k for white label rebrand. Mina and Jordan will put together a document with the pros and cons of both app options.

Testing updates on the light source location to put together information and tooling methods for Coffey to start production. Coffey meeting tomorrow, he has all information can discuss timelines, but the information isn’t available to work through yet. Tooling costs still need to be discussed with supplier (and part costs).

DINING

Brief discussion was had, not beginning immediately until the outdoor is solved.

DK would like a timber element included for warmth. Need to confirm if we would cover the whole metal or just the armrest section. If using veneer, would need a stronger finish than we currently have, which we aren’t confident exists at this stage. Initial thoughts are that the thickness of finish required for durability would not let us appreciate the natural feel of timber. Is this balance that DK requested something we can achieve? Still no straight answer from DK on this.

    • Sent to testing to get data on foam- Jane will send to James afterwards

    • Foam cutting new machines required

    • Order an extra AuraO and get them to put in the weather and assess

  • Canopy add on

    • decided on aluminium material (or plastic tubing heat bent) as the steel is much too heavy. This is in discussion.

    • Fabric for canopy- same as cabana fabric. With Richard/Sebastian at the moment, using sunbrella for back up now.

  • Canopy mech - stainless steel sample in testing, not perfect yet.

  • BOM assessment with Jane/Yanqiu as the costing has come back too high. Particularly coating, packaging, foam. Start with revised BOM and go from there.

Super soft foam exploration

SOFA GENERAL

DK wants to explore using a super soft foam which is high density to replace dacron in some circumstances. Seen it at Cassina.

The team found a foam to replace LT48, rejected because they didn’t understand the purpose of the foam, as a backup supplier. It wasn’t as good as LT48 so they rejected it. Perhaps they misunderstood the brief.

Tanya to ask DK for more details.

Tanya Rechberger discuss with Michele and DK re the designer and priority of DKs new sofa design. Also ask MD for foam sample from Italy if possible.

GL Making sample now.

Working on multiple avenues at the moment, custom supplier parts and in house version. DK pushed for in house again, Shiyang has big concerns which have been communicated with DK. We will push ahead in any case and Cecco make a sample of timber components.

Working to tight timeline as updated by Team Ponti here 2023 PROJECT CALANDER Ryan&Pearson.xlsx

DK signed off on 90 degree timber veneer and on table mechanisms.

Shengsheng sample is quite good- Ryan has seen in person and is happy with the products finish. Ryan would like to discuss light-weighting the insert component as well (narrower border and thinner ply considerations). (Consider changing to a leather loop handle rather than strap to give more leverage to shorter people.)

Due to mechanism delays with new method, production for post spring would have had to start production this week for that.

UZ a bit disappointing.

Motor addition has been put on hold, working on gas pop up lift sample. Ryan to work on the concept alongside Shen for fastest solution to be found. Gas strut arrived, installed into table, not working as expected, test moving the mounting point of mech before considering changes to the track form. No changes have been considered for that yet.

Telescopic gas strut is not working due to mount point issues. Moving on to coil spring concept testing now (this will reduce heavy fall on closing). Coil spring requiring mount plates to be made hope to test assembled unit Thursday 27/06. Also implementing linear damper to reduce crash sound when opening. Large one functions well! Need to find a smaller one for aesthetic reasons. Testing Shen’s two arm pivot method (plan B below- 2 pivot arm method (linkage method) didn’t work as planned, abandoning for now.)

Locking process - has been designed but not prototyped just yet. Ryan will check with Shiyang where the prototype is up to. (A lock on the pulley with King Branding.)

Plan A for pop up- is telescopic gas strut (Failed).

Plan B- linkage arms together with a normal gas strut. Failed

Plan C- spiral spring concept. Working on now

Latest quotes from UZ home for manual extension table are walnut $2974 AUD and $2345 AUD for Congo/Smoked oak. Shangsheng is approx. $400 cheaper for walnut version.

In GL- installation of mechanism - Ryan will start Shiyang on this. Ryan will speak to Shiyang about the learnings from the assembly of the Shengshen sample. Need BOM of the metal parts for internal and external production. Still waiting, but as product not resolved.

Leg sample- all timber suppliers only want to make in unveneered solid timber (not plywood), Ryan will enquire about MDF veneered with steel through the leg as well as foam. Quote comparison for veneered solid timber awaiting to compare against Shengshen price breakdown once received. LeShu will sample up a veneered leg send to supplier 19/07 expect sample turnaround within a week.

Foot detail- use a removable flat plate at the bottom with a rubber component glued on top and bottom. 6mm top and bottom plate. Investigate DKs long bolt solution post flock production.

Manual version for flock- would be ready in approx 2 weeks to finalise, which would still be half way through Post Spring season unfortunately. Could do online only if we could photograph first. This might highlight any construction issues on a simpler form prior to automatic product release.

Automatic table expected to be ready for release in 2 months- Ponti will make a timeline.

DINING

Yabo sample is almost finished, DK has approved with improvements to the seat inlay. Check in on recess for steel frame before the product ships.

Plan to have a seat insert manufactured in GL and assembled in Customers home. +/- 3mm tolerance on the chairs is achievable which will assist in this process. Aware it’s very risky and will be putting a lot of work into minimising risk in order to get max benefit.

Yabo sample arrived good for review - try to make seat pad Tuesday 1/8 in GL.

LIGHT TIMBER COLOUR OPTION/ Master stain update

Trying to create King master colours across the board, as well as new lighter colour.

Pearson has ideas on using Ash instead of Red Oak across the board, it’s cheaper and more durable. Pearson will speak to GL team to get some sampling moving along. Cecco is remaking some samples, Oil based was used instead of water based, so needed to redo. Fingers crossed it will be faster this time (not 6 weeks like last time). Only Cecco currently looking at light timber option as they are our main solid timber supplier and they use the best water based finished.

Veneer sample master underway with one supplier currently. Pearson will follow up. GL purchasing team assisting with this to try to bring all finishes into line together to match colours better.

UZ samples underway to ensure timber finishes from them match.
