FIREFLY - OUTDOOR LANTERN

OUTDOOR

MILESTONES:

Brief - portable, charging, ip rated, fabric integration for softer feel. DK confirmed wants plug in charging.

Tested base light vs column light- preference for base light but need to prove that taller 750mm range expansion will be possible down the track, using 3D print and higher lumens.

Worked through construction solutions for assemblability - will model awaiting Coffey’s responses and quotation estimates.

date DK meeting confirm charging near house rather than in garden space. Plug in charger.

Wifi compatibility decided due lower cost, as well as fixed on/off switch with Pallino operation capabilities.

Mina made a document with the pros and cons of KING App v white label app. Will show DK and get his opinion on whether to push forward.

TO DO:

Gathering tooling cost, bom cost and lead time estimates given info at this stage

With price estimate, go to pricing and DK to see if it’s a viable product that we go ahead with

HELIO PENDANT

LIGHTING

MILESTONES:

DK meeting happened to review supplier complete samples. Would like Team Tarmac to develop modular version of this product.

Mina and jordan explored range plan of all modular components.

Mina developed straight universal connector to be used across modules. DK happy with solution.

DK only concern is there are too many suspension cables. When we handover the production documents with the supplier we will ask if the suspension cables can be removable if not in use.

Other concerns for this project:

  1. Weight of large configurations may be too much for some ceilings?

  2. Will we need to design and develop a configurator website?

  3. How can an electrician position all of the mounting points on the ceiling for a custom configuration?

  4. Installation on slanted ceilings?

  5. Installation around other utilities in a ceiling?

Mina to further prototype connector parts

Mina to generate production documentation to share with INFINITELUX

Injection moulding completed.

Veneering pricing underway. Veneering samples fading too fast compared to GL samples, Dylan finding out if issues. Alinta will follow up Dylan again for standards.

Bed instructions are critical. Dom will do a back up video but possibly CS can handle the video.

Packaging sent over. On hold for time being until design finalised again.

Working on extending sizing rollout after flock.

California King- not for US flock, but will be offered- GL for mattress, and other beds.

SAP preparation underway. On hold for time being until design finalised again.

Feasibility of corner has been proven, just working on producing it neatly.

Top of bed technique, needs to be decided based of Cabana best solution. 8 weeks for spring production readiness.

Inner frames- 35x20 tube was strong enough. Pins to connect the two frames together- need to test, Alinta to manage, trial this week. Alinta jump test completed- pass on to James to prove it.

Mosquito net machine sewing tension still not right, pattern will need to be checked after tension issues solved.

Frank organising new veneer sample frames x 2 (for pricing purposes)

CABANA

OUTDOOR

Roof structure- redesign plan B solution underway, requires a cut out, laser welding not working, testing cold welding? Cold welding worked.

Powder coat samples has been powder coated in a satin finish but doesn’t match GL so purchasing to keep trying to match GLs over time.

Outdoor foam- James is okay for current use, James will follow up with a few long term questions with supplier.

Headrest cushion done for shoot. Also need to solve this for production. - test new attachment method concept week of 31/07

Flock:

Spoken to teams re flock components- ready to produce frames and foam week of 24/07, leaving in week of 31/07, could be pushed. Can make flock seats from 4 buns (of 10 buns) if not use indoor foam. 40 line items that aren’t sourced yet - band aid solution for flock in place for each. Sourcing pressure on Frank- know what to source for all except Bungee cord which Alinta will bring along. GL sourced components (knock-ins) Knock-ins in quotation with GL this week. 4 weeks away from airfreight minimum. Roof canopy fabric- ETA for Spanish fabric 01/08, possibly hold back canopy by 1 week if not doable to turn around in 1 week. Jigs still TBC, making flock without jigs. Discuss with DK if we put in stores without roof canopy or wait to meet roof canopy.

Steel tube feels - see if it can be moved to a better position that’s more comfortable. Consider expanded mesh- later.

OUTDOOR

  • Timber Screws in KFT initially sourced through GL while purchasing searches for Thai version.

  • Jigs for timber being designed 31/07/23 week.

  • Ceramic. Driftwood 6mm currently- is it too thin. Consider compact laminate, glass underside and 12mm thickness options. Speak to GL re 6mm strength with bumpers. Sample 6mm 24/07 week- testing in progress week of 31/07

  • Pocket springs: first round of SS pocket springs too expensive, Still searching for a viable coating solution, considering box spring coated after spring assembly, Dom will see if Alinta’s old springs with Phil.

  • Also asked Angela to source the plastic springs in China as a back up plan. She asked for sample- still searching.

  • Trial arms this week in TU. 24/07 week- will discuss with DK.

  • Water ingress washers- currently just having exit holes. Hoping expanded Mesh solves this.

  • Soft foam for arms- follow up for flock production.

  • Trial expanded steel mesh for the batyline replacement. Working with Shiyang.

  • Occasional table- produced in KFT- need to make a producible part ASAP in Thailand- consider a folding leg (with an L shape dog leg pivot point). Start design process on this.

  • New arm back will be made for flock.

  • Explore expanded mesh in KFT (through purchasing)

  • Ask engineers if aluminium frames for sofa would be strong enough

  • Prepare to send to KFT ASAP.

  • Grip mesh stress, using a sub par flock mesh which might break down, testing after flock and search for stronger version.

    OCCASIONAL

Charles wants to update the comfort of the inside of the occasional chair, DK has approved the process start. Trying to get Charles to manage the prototyping process.

Have found chair for using on sampling. Tanya Rechberger to bring up to design area.

    Super soft foam exploration

    SOFA GENERAL

DK wants to explore using a super soft foam which is high density to replace dacron in some circumstances. Seen it at Cassina.

The team found a foam to replace LT48, rejected because they didn’t understand the purpose of the foam, as a backup supplier. It wasn’t as good as LT48 so they rejected it. Perhaps they misunderstood the brief.

Tanya to ask DK for more details.

Tanya Rechberger discuss with Michele and DK re the designer and priority of DKs new sofa design. Also ask MD for foam sample from Italy if possible.

Production starting on the chairs has begun on customer orders.

Gam made some updates to the patterns including automotive closure. Still need to get patterns for TU and create the spare part for the J hook closure.

Requested packaging testing, awaiting feedback. Push again for ITSA test, drop tests have failed apparently but Ryan doesn’t have up to date information. Still no information provided.

Die lines of chair packaging with marketing at the moment. Still with marketing.

Ask Wichai to send a video of assembly process to gauge customer process. Still waiting.

Assembly instructions- air freight chair sample from TH for Adam to create instructions.

No update for approx one month on these requests- will ask Frank if someone else can assist.

Emailed Wichai/Frank on 24/7. Have been asking for a month with no actions.

    HERITAGE EXT. TBL

    DINING

    GL Making sample now.

Working on multiple avenues at the moment, custom supplier parts and in house version. DK pushed for in house again, Shiyang has big concerns which have been communicated with DK. We will push ahead in any case and Cecco make a sample of timber components.

Working to tight timeline as updated by Team Ponti here https://kingliving.sharepoint.com/:x:/s/design/ERrvBGfzlBJDil3fCIJPd9QBZ9EaxCrbES0Z6xqW-TDYpg?e=yzS1QI

DK signed off on 90 degree timber veneer and on table mechanisms.

Shengsheng sample is quite good- Ryan has seen in person and is happy with the products finish. Ryan would like to discuss light-weighting the insert component as well (narrower border and thinner ply considerations). (Consider changing to a leather loop handle rather than strap to give more leverage to shorter people.)

Due to mechanism delays with new method, production for post spring would have had to start production this week for that.

Motor addition has been put on hold, working on gas pop up lift sample. Ryan to work on the concept alongside Shen for fastest solution to be found. Gas strut arrived, installed into table, not working as expected, test moving the mounting point of mech before considering changes to the track form. No changes have been considered for that yet.

Telescopic gas strut is not working due to mount point issues. Moving on to coil spring concept testing now (this will reduce heavy fall on closing). Coil spring requiring mount plates to be made hope to test assembled unit Thursday 27/06. Also implementing linear damper to reduce crash sound when opening. Large one functions well! Need to find a smaller one for aesthetic reasons. Testing Shen’s two arm pivot method (plan B below- 2 pivot arm method (linkage method) didn’t work as planned, abandoning for now.)

Plan A for pop up- is telescopic gas strut (Failed).

Plan B- linkage arms together with a normal gas strut. Failed

Plan C- spiral spring concept. Working on now

Latest quotes from UZ home for manual extension table are walnut $2974 AUD and $2345 AUD for Congo/Smoked oak. Shangsheng is approx. $400 cheaper for walnut version.

In GL- installation of mechanism - Ryan will start Shiyang on this. Ryan will speak to Shiyang about the learnings from the assembly of the Shengshen sample. Need BOM of the metal parts for internal and external production. Still waiting, but as product not resolved.

Leg sample- all timber suppliers only want to make in unveneered solid timber (not plywood), Ryan will enquire about MDF veneered with steel through the leg as well as foam. Quote comparison for veneered solid timber awaiting to compare against Shengshen price breakdown once received. LeShu will sample up a veneered leg send to supplier 19/07 expect sample turnaround within a week.

Foot detail- use a removable flat plate at the bottom with a rubber component glued on top and bottom. 6mm top and bottom plate. Investigate DKs long bolt solution post flock production.

Manual version for flock- would be ready in approx 2 weeks to finalise, which would still be half way through Post Spring season unfortunately. Could do online only if we could photograph first. This might highlight any construction issues on a simpler form prior to automatic product release.

Automatic table expected to be ready for release in 2 months- Ponti will make a timeline.

Sign off on Manual Table planned for August 18th.

Rotary dampeners unlikely to be ready for Flock and VIP stock orders (closing slam prevention)

Linear dampeners (opening slam prevention) also difficult to achieve for flock and VIP stock. Will still try to make happen as best as possible.

Light weighting of the butterfly is difficult but trying. (timber removal replaced by extra steel weight which attempting to do but not so simple.

Locking handle - cheap and quick way to turnaround in 2 weeks. Finish of lever only- function is sorted. Testing plastic dip process 1/08.

Packaging crate vs Cardboard- passed onto Tony D and James/Jason to mostly handle. Designer focus elsewhere.

Compliance testing underway with James with extra sample orders.

    TASMAN CHR/Magnolia chair- Name TBC

    DINING

Yabo sample is almost finished, DK has approved with improvements to the seat inlay. Check in on recess for steel frame before the product ships.

Plan to have a seat insert manufactured in GL and assembled in Customers home. +/- 3mm tolerance on the chairs is achievable which will assist in this process. Aware it’s very risky and will be putting a lot of work into minimising risk in order to get max benefit.

Yabo sample arrived good for review - try to make seat pad Tuesday 1/8 in GL.

Getting Chen up to speed on the frame and current pattern concept. Not gluing the foam to seat for now- using existing version. Will consider updates to timber frame for possible use later if the option is there.

MAGNOLIA TBL/Tasman Table - Name TBC

    DINING

Yabo is sampling the Magnolia table. Sample arrived with wobble- supplier blaming steel frame. Going ahead with steel frame, as it’s a requirement for the product. Try to lightweight steel ASAP to reduce issues. This will influence leg construction.

Samples with suppliers soon. DK has approved to go ahead with suppliers (change timber horizontal to steel tube).

-Consider as an extension table down the track.

LIGHT TIMBER COLOUR OPTION/ Master stain update

Trying to create King master colours across the board, as well as new lighter colour.

Pearson has ideas on using Ash instead of Red Oak across the board, it’s cheaper and more durable. Pearson will speak to GL team to get some sampling moving along. Cecco is remaking some samples, Oil based was used instead of water based, so needed to redo. Fingers crossed it will be faster this time (not 6 weeks like last time). Only Cecco currently looking at light timber option as they are our main solid timber supplier and they use the best water based finished.

Veneer sample master underway with one supplier currently. Pearson will follow up. GL purchasing team assisting with this to try to bring all finishes into line together to match colours better.

UZ samples underway to ensure timber finishes from them match.

    NEW SOFT FLEX ARM SOFA
